You may have heard about Mr Anurag Dikshit who was made to pay $300 million to the US government last year because Mr Dikshit is a major shareholder in Party Gaming and therefore made a living fro online poker even though it is technically illegal in the US <Link Dikshit Law>
Well we have another case which beats Mr Dikshit’s case hands down. Not in numbers but in sheer lunacy! In Denmark the Danish Supreme Court has ruled that a man who earned his living from professional online poker playing was illegal. Now before I go any further just take that last statement in because online poker in Denmark is not illegal! <Denmark Seizes Online Poker Winnings of Professional>
So basically if you win at poker in Denmark you will be considered a professional player and therefore you will have all your winnings taken of you. How stupid is that? What is the point of playing poker if you cannot win? The reason for this law is that they want to discourage people gambling for a living which seems very weird because if you gamble there will always be winners and losers – that’s why we do it!
Now they do not name the guy in this report so there is no way to see what this guy thinks but if I were him I would take this straight to the European Courts of Human Rights as this is complete nonsense and should be challenged. It is a person human rights to not be restricted in trade and since poker playing is a trade then it is being restricted. The activity itself is not illegal so why earning money from it illegal?
Danish people on the whole are nice people and those that i have met seemed quite cool but this is an abonimation and totally ridiculous and for a man to lose $28,000 to a band of idiots is worst than having your Ace’s re-raised by a donk with 7 – 2 unsuited then the donk hitting a full house. It makes no sense, rhyme or reason.
The Danish law is an ass!
