Henry Cooper

Henry Cooper was not only a famous figure in boxing but also in the television. Sir Henry Cooper was known an English heavyweight boxer and won the title of British, Commonwealth, and European championship many times throughout his life. In 1966 he challenged Mohammed Ali in the world heavyweight championship but unluckily he lost the match with Ali. On last 1st May 2011 just before two days of his 77th birthday.

Small Biography: Henry cooper was born in Lambeth, London in the family of Lily Cooper and Henry Cooper senior. He had two brothers and one was twin with Henry Cooper. Henry was born in 3rd May 1934. When Second World War started his father was called to serve in the war. At that time their family can’t see their father for about three years. Before joining the boxing he has to pass a very measurable life. After being retired from boxing he became a famous television figure.

Boxing carrier: Henry Cooper has started his boxing carrier in 1949 in Eltham Boxing club as an amateur. He was left handed and he used the orthodox stand. He was famous for his left hook which was known as Enry’s Ammer. Before serving the Army at the age of seventeen he won the first of two ABA light heavyweight championships. After serving in the army for two years Henry and his twin George whose boxing name was Jim Cooper started professional boxing under the guidance of Jim Wicks and he was known as “Bishop” for his giant figure.

Muhammad Ali: Cooper fought twice with Muhammad Ali who was known as Cassius Clay at that time. When Cooper meet Ali first time on that time he didn’t have any trainer and he was not in the weight to play with Ali. They had first met in the Wembley Stadium. On that day commentator was amazed to see the reflexes of Cooper. But the remember able meeting took place in 1963 and on that in the fourth round Ali was flowing with the Enry’s ‘Ammer. But eventually Ali won the match.

Life after retirement: Henry Cooper remains the only boxer who has won three Lonsdale Belts outright. In 2000 he was awarded with the title Knight. After retiring from boxing career he joined in the television and Radio media. He was a great media person as well as become very much popular for his politeness.

Achievement through life: Henry Cooper achieved a lot of things throughout his life. Here only the achievement and the history of his boxing life are sited. His height was 1.84 meters and Reach was 90 cm. He fought 55 matches, wins in 40 matches and 27 matches are won by KO. Cooper looses only in 14 matches and made only one match draw. He was a great person in the BBC. After his dead Ali said that he was at a loss.
