Space ‘The Opium’ Of Online Poker

Chris Hadfield nasa

Chris Hadfield

As you may or may not know, I love watching NASA television while playing online poker. In fact I will check out anything to do with space to keep me fresh and interested while grinding away on a poker site to stop me getting a rush of blood to the head and doing something stupid.

Doing something stupid comes easily to me as I do have a low threshold level especially when I am losing. I have been known to turn from insanely tight to completely ‘loosey goosey’ in a second because something annoyed me or I got seriously bored. With the opium of online TV such as NASA it can calm me down and get me into a positive frame of mind when sports trading or playing poker.

The only problem I do get is when Chris Hadfield does his ‘Village People Reject’ routine and starts singing in that weird voice of his. It is all good fun and I would rather have him than some dullard with all the charisma of a cod fillet.

Chris Hadfield is coming back to Earth today and it will be funny to see if his David Bowie song ‘Space Oddity’ does really well in the charts now that he can do some real gigs and personal appearance. Maybe he could be backed by The Village People as he does not look out of place one little bit. Obviously his role would be astronaut and this could be a major move in making space exploration more popular and funny and he has the moustache already.

What Is Your Favourite Chinese Meal When Playing Poker?

Chow Mein with duck

Chinese Meal For Poker

A take away Chinese meal and online poker go together like a horse and carriage or whiskey and ice. Yes you can have pizza but because you have to hold a pizza slice with a hand and chomp away it makes it impractical and messy.

With a Chinese you are forced to use a implement such as a fork or chop stick, therefore, the process is more cleaner and practical.

Take this survey and let me know as I will be doing a more in depth research:

Nevada Has Broken The Breach

Nevada Flag

Nevada Flag

Well at least it is a start! Nevada has a online poker site which will legitimately allow online poker players to be allowed to live in the US and deposit money to play. This sound weird since US players have been playing for a long time. The problem was the FBI and other bodies didn’t like the way players were by passing the law so they closed most down with threats and action as was seen on ‘Black Friday’.

The only problem is that you have  to live in Nevada and play on Ultimate Poker website. So unless there is a sudden migration to Nevada, poker players who do not live in Nevada will have to do things in which they will be seen as being Nevada based players. Like I said, it is a start.

From what I have read it does not seem to be a rip roaring success at the moment, quelle surprise! But as long as everything goes right and there is no major botch up – and with this we are talking about Ultimate Poker who do have a history of almighty cock ups – the Americans could be set free to participate in the purest form of capitalism known to man.

The Problem At Everleaf Gaming

Everleaf Gaming

Everleaf Gaming

Another day, another problem. It seems that Everleaf Gaming is in serious trouble. They are having delays in paying out monies to customers and affiliates. In fact one skin Meteor Poker has gone as far as putting a notice up telling it customers where the trouble lay if they are having problems getting their money out.

Meteor Poker

Meteor Poker having issues with Everleaf Gaming

This is just another of those issue that plague online poker. I suppose that the ultimate capitalist expression which has always been inhabited by rogues, hustlers and chiselers since it’s inception will always be on a edge.

Apparently the Maltese gaming authority are investigating the issues but already they are having grief because they said most of the complaints came from ‘non-genuine players’. This is an interesting term of phrase. It seems that if you are having problems taking your own legitimate money away from a poker organisation there is a difference if you are a player or a player who is an affiliate, or even if you are just an affiliate!

There should be equality of status between the customers/stakeholder and the organisation. Therefore, if the complaint is about withdrawing cash and there is no issues about where the cash came from, then there should not be an issue about the cash final destination.

Clearly The Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta will need to get its self sorted out and sorted pretty quickly. Creating smoke screens about the origin of complaints is not good for the commissions reputation. Obviously there is a problem with Everleaf Gaming and for all the players and affiliates involved the authorities need to do the right thing.

Choosing The Right Poker Table

Playing poker on a real life poker table can be very frightening for a new player. Although it can be scary on a virtual table there is the added advantage of it being anonymous. In real life a poker game cannot be played without a poker table. Poker tables are not uniform and can come in varied shapes and sizes. A customized table to suit a poker game specifications is very common at the moment since the size of a player can be restrictive on factory produced tables.

The most common poker tables are mostly oval, kidney or hexagonal. There are some rectangle shaped tables but since the present poker boom that poker tables tend to have curves. A curvy table to play poker is more than ideal as it let players interact naturally.

The size of a table is very important as well. Generally the bigger the better as it will help with the seating of players around the table. The height of the poker table should be generally the same height as a normal dinner table.

A lot of poker tables will have a drink station built into them. This is to protect the poker table cloth and to be helpful if there is an over excited player. Sometimes the drink station are used to hold chips but this is discouraged as seeing how many chips a player has is vital to the game of poker.

Some poker tables are multipurpose which can be flipped to form a roulette table, a craps table, or a six-person blackjack table. These type of tables are great for parties and casino nights as people can get disinterested when it is only poker being played.

The latest design of table tops are a welcome edition to the poker game. Being easy to store and cheap to buy. This type of poker equipment tend to be used by poker players who have families and not a lot of room for storage.

Can BitCoin Become Online Poker Unit Of Currency?

Bitcoin

With the US government, the greater political class and entrepreneurs continue to procrastinate over online poker. Could BitCoin finally make the break through on the wider public conciousness by becoming the unit of currency for online poker?

It would make a lot of sense if it was the uni of currency and will finally let the US market become truly integrated in the world of online poker bypassing the US regulatory authority. Obviously the US would kick and scream but to all intense and purposes BitCoin would be no more different than all those virtual currency which go into FarmVille and SororityVille style games.

The US could not legitimately claim that any player or organisation was indulging in breaking the law. If they did then Facebook which facilitate virtual currency would be a massive front for money laundering. since they have loads of online games in which virtual things are brought and traded.

There are at least one organisation I know that uses BitCoin for poker but it needs to be well advertised and maybe the old promotion technique that was used in the early days of online poker would come back into fashion. Ahh those days when you could double your initial deposit and play with double your bank.

I would love to take the risk on this BitCoin fluff but it would clearly need a person who has the politics of a libertarian and the pockets of a well funded derivative trader to really do this idea justice. We await such a knight in shining armour.

The Merge Meltdown Continues

Pokerview Down

Pokerview Down

The one genuine online poker site that tried to implement the fabled poker 2.0 has disappeared. PokerView which attempted to have live webcams featuring real live players playing online poker suddenly closed on the 1st of April 2013.

The reason for the closure has not been announced, however, it seems that all the players can still play because the preferred Merge online sites will take up the players and the accounts will keep their integrity except for bonus points, loyalty schemes etc.

The two main points other than the loss of a truly genuine attempt to create a live experience online is:

1. The continuing decline of Merge
2. Why are players losing VIP points and tournament tickets if they are still on Merge?

The Merge Meltdown is without a doubt a worrying situation since they lost Lock Poker, True Poker, Black Chip, Hero Poker, RPM Poker, Overbet and Iron Duke. Obviously there is a problem at the heart of why the poker website is not doing the business. Maybe it is the downbeat nature of the colour scheme of the network which makes it so unattractive, who knows?

Merge could be interesting with its bad beat jackpots which gave players a reason to play a lot, so it seems strange that the relative new network should be having so much difficulties with skins leaving or disappearing.
If players are being  transferred to other skins within the network it seems that letting players keep the special promotions that they earned would be a good thing. First it shows that they are not losers and dead beats, and, second it shows commitment that other skins are not going to fold. All the promo scheme like VIP points are technically money as they have value in the sense that you can use them to earn which is why we as customers deposit money and play poker. We do it because we like to win money and we use anything to win money.

Anyway the people at Merge better get their act together before the downward spiral become a death spiral in a journey of no return.

Are Poker Networks Consolidating?

Logo Fortune Poker

Logo Fortune Poker

Another poker room closes suddenly and it seems that online poker is going through its regular spasm of drama. Surely soon the online poker industry will have to have a complete root and branch shake up as the bonus culture that once sustained it becomes almost non-existence, bots are becoming ubiquitous and rake back is clearly hurting poker rooms.

The industry was supposed to have found a way of making online poker more interesting than a cash machine for bot players, with the heralded online poker 3.0 enhancing the recreational poker p[layer experience. But as we all know it seems that the quest to inspire has been quietly dropped and it seems that porn we still take first place, followed by slots and then sports betting.

Even blogging has seemed to have been on a down turn. It is hard to write stuff when you’re losing money hand over fist. Although I am glad to say that I have been winning lately, however, friends I know have been having a terrible time losing a lot of cash. OK it is not in the 100′s of thousands but it is still significant. Clearly the players are more skilled and are more willing to take risk which ultimately hurt old timers who are used to playing in a certain way.

This one the one hand means nothing since the whole point of poker is to take cash of people who are not fit to have it! Poker is a game for capitalism red in tooth and claw. So in the Darwinian scheme of things if you cannot keep up your dead.

Which begs the question online poker is not sexy no more and the operators are more interested in pushing slots, bingo and other money dumping game in which the operator can control the winning streaks of the player. Online slots, roulette and other games are OK if you like paying for flashing images but to my jaundiced eyes they are a area which I cannot understand as fruit machines online are exactly, that a lazy way to give money away to program financier.

So as online poker reach its natural state of being a game to play when nothing else is interesting then it will have to take up Zynga Poker social networking model as a way of creating buzz. Zynga is a bit like online poker 2.5 in which they have a strong social network concept and now are looking to get a bigger grab of the punters money.

Obviously this model is not going to satisfy most poker room and quite frankly online texting chit chat can be mind numbingly dull. So hurry up online poker rooms lets get very capitalistic and wipe out the dead beat online poker rooms.

Women And Online Poker

Poker Totty Danielle A-B the card player

Poker Totty Danielle A-B the card player

Once again online poker is seen as the ruination of women and the further continuation of the fall of civilisation. In a report written by Liz Karter, who is apparently the UK’s most eminent addiction specialist, said that women are becoming more addicted to online gambling specifically poker than drink!

The report gives reason for this as women do not like hangovers and other associated side effects that they do not get with online poker. OK it is a reasoned argument that since the National Lottery became ubiquitous that women are likely to have a flutter but I would argue it is more online bingo than poker which has got the women hooked.

I find it very hard to see how online poker is the cause but I can easily believe that online bingo and casino which seems to be clearly marketed to women would be more addictive. With online bingo you basically place your money and wait to see if your ticket gets pulled out. It is no more that a raffle.

The adverts on TV are heavily aimed at women. Whereas online poker is heavily aimed at men. In online poker there is a heavy skill biased process, unlike online bingo and as with anything you have to follow the money. Now if online bingo was not aimed primarily at women there would not be names such as Foxy Bingo or Cheeky Bingo or even one called Maria. These are not aimed at men.

So Liz Karter maybe right that online gambling in the form of online bingo is becoming a choose of addiction for women but it is not online poker and the distinction should be more clearly marked. In fact if women do need to have a way of escaping the rigours of work, home life, relationship nurturing and family raising I would argue that online poker would be a better bet than online bingo which I have stated above no more engaging than raffles.

What would be good for a lot of recreational online poker players would be anonymous poker where the chance of being manipulated by bots and other nefarious machines would be minimise and lead to recreational players more chances of getting lucky.

In fact I would go further and say that poker rooms that assigned random names to players so that the machines do  not get a handle on the players and build a database on their patterns of playing would be a good idea. OK after a while some bright spark may develop a bot which could take into account random online players name and associate them with actual players, but, it would take time to do. In the meantime online poker players both men and women would have a chance to play without being squeezed like a orange by these awful bots.
