Student Jeff Papola wins Event 32, the $5,000 six-handed no-limit hold ‘em. He cashed out when he came second the previous week in Event 26 and then he decided to have a go at Event 32.

David Baker

Young poker player David Baker (23) has been ripping up the WSOP finisihing regular in the money and recently taking another payday wage when he won the No Limit Deuce to Seven.

At this rate he is fast traking to be the next superstar on the poker tables and once again seem to prove that poker should be regarded as a sport since you have to be young to win it.

In fact he has only started playing low ball poker four months ago which shows two things:

1. If they are good at online poker and have acquired the skills needed to win then this is transferable to live games.

2. The old guard better get used to it, the youngsters are fast learners.

Event 19: 2-7 draw lowball world championship
Buy-in: $10,000
Entries: 101
Prize pool: $949,400

For those who are bored with poker or the football (soccer if you are US citizen) here is something to keep you entertained. It is the latest dance crazes from Brazil and it is funny as f**K!

Poker Is A Sport – More Evidence.

Carter Phillips

Carter Phillips

Further evidence that poker is more like sport, the final table of the World Series Of Poker Event 16 had an average age of 22.8. As in normal sporting endeavour the younger you are the more supple you are and consequently the better player you are.

So poker is following the model of sporting acheivement. Undoubtedly older people can do well but in the end I would rather back someone like Nadal than McEnroe.

The winner of this event was Carter Phillips aho has only being playing full time for 18 months and has now amassed an amazing $1.8 million world wide, averaging roughly $100,000 every month – nice living doncha think!

The November Nine

The November Nine 2009

We are looking for the next WSOP Champion. To do this we will be prepared to back all bloggers who contribute to this website and are willing to keep us updated with their progress.

Our backing will be financial and we will expect a split (70:30 in favour of the player).  Obviously we are taking a risk and therefore we will need people with the mental capacity to grind out a place like last years third Antoine Saout who was our pick when he was a massive 18/1.

More updates of this new and special scheme when we get them watch this space.

Joseph Cada - Champion

Joseph Cada - Champion

Joeseph Cada is WSOP Champion 2009. His pair of 9′s held up for him to walk away with $ 8,546,435.

Altough I didn’t have a penny on him it does make me feel better that this was the guy who knocked out our pick Saout.

Antoine Saout

Antoine Saout

Our boy played a brilliant game fighting from 6th place to become chip leader, however, he succumbed to losing to a pair of deuces which reduced his chips significantly and finally getting rivered by a King, both to the same player Joe Cada.

From a betting point o view it was unfortunate but at least we had a good run for our money and quite frankly I would love to get 18/1′s like Antoine Saout. Still he did collect $3,479,670 for his time.

Antoine Saout

Antoine Saout

The big event on Saturday is set to start 12 noon (Pacific Time) and I have been given a surprise tip by Magical Tipser – it is Antoine Saout.

He is the 25 year old Frenchman who is the surprise package in this years final and subsequently he is a big price (18/1 on Betfair). As the rank outsider he is expected to be one of the first to be knocked out, however, do not be surprised if he stays in a lot longer than most people think.

Apparently he has been practicing very hard by playing in all sorts of tournaments and seems to have a lot of stamina which is needed for such competition.

James Akenhead – come into the calculations as another big price (15/1) but he is also short stacked and he too will need a miracle, but sometimes miracles do happen.
