Mahmut Aygun Was A Genius

Doner Kebab

Doner Kebab

The next time you’ve just had a session of pub poker and you walk away from the pub full of drink and hopefully cash, heading to the late night take away for that glory of a doner kebab. Just have a moment as you tuck into the soaker upper of meat, veg, sauce and grease, for Mahmut Aygun – the inventor of the doner kebab.

Mahmut Aygun died last weekend and has been claimed to have invented the dish in 1971! I along with a load of other people believed we were eating an ancient  Turkey delicacy which had been modernised for the 20th Century clubber to eat when drunk. But no it was actually developed by an entrepreneur less than 50 years ago.

I hope he made a load of money out of his invention because there is a whole industry based on his meal and it would be a shame if he only made money as a chef.
