Using Poker for Therapy

After a rather interesting situation concerning man management, I was minded to think about how poker can operate as a release valve for pent up frustration.

We have all experience ‘full tilt’ and suicide card play, but, sometimes a aggressive player who wants to take out an opponent can reap rewards for the player who is targeted.

In fact I would go on to say that  being the center of attention when on a table not only enhances your self belief but disconcerts opponents who maybe don’t know  that you play poker without inhibitions.

As I have said before the chips on a poker table are just a tool of measurement  for you state of mind. Therefore a player who wants to bet no matter what the outcome of the result can force an aggressive but tight player into a passive but tight player – or as I call them bunny victims.

Conversely  a player who has other stuff on his or her mind can be hustled out of a game and forced into playing stupidly by having distractions such as banter and silly noises, which if use effectively can reek havoc to a distracted mind. The best way to overcome this is to use reverse psychology and increase the noise and banter level by starting a row on some random topic or better still think of the opponent without clothes on and for me that works best when the opponent is hideous.

Treating the poker table as an analyst chair can be good for the mind and also make you money.
