Damon Harris (originally born as Otis Harris) died after a long illness with prostate cancer. He was the youngest member to join The Temptations and will always be remembered for the sweet silky voice on a number of Temptations hits such as “Love Woke Me Up This Morning”, “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”, “Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)” and “Take a Look Around”.
He was in a unenviable position of replacing Eddie Kendricks but in the end it was clear he did add a new angle to the falsetto side of The Temptations repertoire. He was later sacked from the group for making comments which the management thought were detrimental to the groups image.
He went into other groups and made a solo album called Silk, but, he later retired and lived out his life quietly, until he was diagnosed with cancer. He set up The Damon Harris Cancer Foundation in 2001 and held the first Damon Harris Cancer Foundation Benefit Gala held in Mount Laurel NJ. During this period he went on various Temptations review with former Temptations singers like David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards.
