So the end of the Olympics has happened and to be perfectly honest the closing ceremony was a bit of a down beat show. Maybe it was the choice of the entertainers who probably tried too hard to emulate the atmosphere of the opening ceremony and just fell short. Or, it was the thought that the 17 days of passion, endeavour and triumph to be replaced by austerity, severity and despair.
Why was it like this and can the positive mood that the nation truly felt can be recaptured? Obviously those in charge of creating a political climate of positivity will work hard to make sure that we are happy and full of the feel good factor. So maybe it is wrong to feel a sour note over the closing ceremony as they can only lift peoples spirit so far.
So that was probably the ambition from the organisers to bring the nation back to the ground and focus the body politic to the reality that froth and glitter can only go so far in removing. Already the establishment are beginning to bicker – David Cameron attacks Boris Johnson as not the star within the Conservative party, trade unions in the public sector are fed up of the abuse they get from the management and the public and the shops are not happy about the amount of trade they gained.
Anyway while I was some what underwhelmed by the closing ceremony at least there is enough stardust in the form of videos to help continue the positive vibe that the London Olympics gave me and others in 2012. Here are some of the videos that captured the mood of greatness.
