William Hague thought that he had led quite a good career as a politician. He stormed into politics aged 16 and became leader of the opposition and a government minister. He was also seen as a leading parliamentarian who know loads about procedure especially in a country that cherishes the concept of not having a written constitution. Yet as he bows out of politics to take up the numerous directorship he has lined up in his retirement he had to make his political career collapse in a blaze of ingloriousness and the spectacle of losing the confidence of parliament because of his own slipperiness and duplicity.
On the last day of parliament he tried to introduce a bill in which he could stab The Speaker of The House in the back. The reason why he did this is that although John Bercow is a member of The Conservatives he is seen as being to independent and critical of the government. Also John Bercow’s wife is a Labour supporter and very opinionated. This has upset the traditionalist in the Conservatives and they wanted to make moves on John Bercow at a time where the government would maximise its vote and the last day of parliament is the best time since most MP’s have departed to their constituencies to prepare for the election on May 7th, 2015.
Problem being that this blatant underhanded manoeuvre pissed off a lot of MP’s and they came rushing back to vote down the bill. also a lot of Conservatives voted against their own government because they did not like the way William Hague blatant under handedness.
The vote brought by William Hague was voted down, but, Hague is not too bothered as he leaves parliament and get a load of cash for influencing future government ministers and therefore John Bercow will have to take out his revenge on any future Conservative government.
