Online poker has a very dark side and although not much is talked about it it is very clear that their are winners and losers. The losers can be from the casual loss of pocket money to losses that amount to the ruin of several lives
The case of international playboy and poker player is really interesting because it shows what money and privilege can do when you are up against a wall. Joran van der Sloot was originally implicated in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. He managed to wriggle out of that and even went on numerous programs about it. Then he said he was involved in selling Natalee Holloway into sex slavery. He later retracted the claim, but seemed to have made money out of the process.
This year he is then confirmed as the sole suspect in the murder of Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramírez – on the 5th anniversary of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. There was no choice in the matter as there was video, DNA and witness statement which tied him to the death of Flores Ramírez and he was caught bang to rights. At this stage he then confessed to the murder of Natalee Holloway after 5 years of playing games.
This situation covers many countries and will be a sensation when the case comes to court. After seeing joran van der Sloot appear on many programs I must admit he did seem more of a idiot than murderer. Never underestimate the depths of human depravity.
The next story is the jailing of 4 men for the attempted assassination of a businessman. The reason why they tried to kill the man was that his son owed them money that was borrowed to play online poker. 37 year old Anthony Demarco got himself into heavy debt when he constantly lost at poker on the Ladbrokes poker site. He then borrowed money to continue playing and when he could not pay thats when the loan sharks decided to kill his dad!
His father survived and Anthony Demarco then tried to exploit his position as finance adviser to steal the money to pay of the loan sharks. The fraud was uncovered and that’s when it became clear that the shooting of Tony Demarco – the dad was all about online poker.
Gambling is all about losers and winners but some time the price is too much to pay and exploiting human weakness, although fun, can have tragic consequences.
