Nancy Pelosi
To say Nancy Pelosi loves power would be an understatement! All politicians love power if truth be told, the only difference with Nancy Pelosi is that she looks like she loves power. Not because it makes her look good and important but because she can do stuff.
As a poker player Nancy Pelosi would be loose aggressive. She would like to dabble in every pot because she likes to be where the action is. She may take a step back if she has a weak hand and thinks the opponent has a better hand, but once she is convinced that her hand has a chance of winning she will go ahead and play that hand strongly.
If she is dominating you expect to be smirked at for being dominated. Nancy Pelosi does not do warm words and gentleness. She enters the game to win and see you as a person also entering the game to win with no prisoners taken. Pelosi would be a nightmare to play because she keeps a great poker face in that she always look like an eagle waiting to gobble her prey. No false move as it could be your last.
She likes to make enemy’s because it helps her impose her game onto the table. Table domination is a great tactic in poker and politics. It does make your enemy’s more bitter but brings out the best in Pelosi. She will never win a humility game. Pelosi does not do humility and in her view why should she when the opposition are scared?
Now that she is the opposition leader in the House of Representative it is clear that Boehner will have to do some nifty footwork to get his colleagues to agree a bi-partisan proposal with Nancy Pelosi on the other side. Some Republicans see Pelosi as a divisive figure. However by having Pelosi on the side of the President will mean he has the progressives more or less covered. This leaves Boehner with the problem of appearing tough but sensible when some in his party will never compromise with anything that Pelosi is offering. They will not support anything Pelosi is in even though they may have supported the proposal in the past.
With Pelosi in the middle expect there to be some ‘all-in’ play from the Democrats, and, as a political junkie viewing it from the outside, it will be great to read and watch. Let the fun begin!
