There is something rather alluring about women poker players. The general idea that poker is a macho game gets blown out of the window when you have all your chips taken away from you by a woman with a nice smile and a crafty slow play. When a bloke reduces your chip stack to zero, you feel angry but then you always have the caveat that he got lucky and the next time you meet up he is a dead man. However, with a woman you immediately think of what she is like without any clothes on – maybe that is my mistake and her secret weapon, my mind was distracted?
I remember reading the Alan Clarke infamous and hilarious biography in which he discussed the sexiness of Margaret Thatcher and how his mind was always drawn to her ankles. In one piece as a government minister, he was involved in some major government statement and Margaret Thatcher was at the dispatch box in the House of Commons and while she was carrying out government business all he was doing was thinking about was the nature of ‘The Iron Maiden’ in full flow carrying out unspeakable things to him in a pleasurable way.
Maybe this is what is going on I certainly don’t feel any sense of chauvinism as I know some players do (never underestimate a poker player based on appearance it is a very bad move and will eventually cost you money), it is a sense of attraction to power which is going on. I mean how tempting is the woman flesh and personality allied to that the power surge that you see in most players when they have the nuts draw! Some men – including myself like the idea of a strong woman, a woman that knows her mind and will test your resolve. Maybe it is the same thing that encourages men to seek out dominatrix and ‘correction mistresses’ like Max Mosley the Formula 1 President, who went to court to defend his privacy and his habit for dressing up like German WW2 officer and prisoner (his dad was a pre WW2 Great Briton Fascist leader which probably had something to do with it as well) and get beaten till blood was drawn!
I don’t think my penchant for women who play poker goes that far but I suppose when you have lost some of your chips to women there is a sort of ‘bleeding’ going on. Just like when you go into ‘full tilt mode’ and throwing your chips at ragged hands is an expression of losing the will to live, giving up and committing suicide.
So when you have lost your chips to a woman which could have some sort of sado-masochistic interpretation, what happens when you win, is it equivalent to wooing a woman to your bed and metaphorically ‘plucking her cherry’ as it were? Or maybe I am over analysing the game which is about survival and knowing your enemy? I bet you thought poker was a gambling game in which the luckiest player was always the winner. Well apparently not as you have just read poker is about psychology and knowing when to make the right moves and playing the percentages. If you do get beaten by a person your attracted to at least it has the get out clause that you made them happy. I like ‘poker totty’ and that’s my excuse and I am sticking to it!
