Once again the lunacy of English football exhibits itself in full glory when the deadline fro transfer comes to an end and the clubs in trouble get robbed and those clubs with very rich sugar daddys buy more trophy players for their cabinet. At the moment the star transfer is the losing of Mario Balotelli to Italy. Mario Balotelli may not be the best footballer in the World but he was comedic gold for his unabashed delight in doing and saying whatever he wanted and then complaining that no one understands him.
Everything from giving £1000 to a tramp after he won £25,000 at roulette, to sex with trophy prostitutes and fighting with his manager during training meant that Mario Balotelli was never going to be a wholesome role model. He was certainly a role model in how not to win friends and influence people. In the end his going will leave the English game a void which needs a clown to fill and give the fans something to moan but be fascinated with.
The transfer deadline was brought in to stop clubs ‘tapping up’ players during the season and destabilising teams with dramatic and unsettling transfer request. Now the football authorities are being attack for letting the mid-season transfer window unsettle and destabilising teams! The poor clubs that are in trouble moan about not getting the true price for the players that are being sold and the frugal clubs moan about fantastically wealthy clubs swooping on a player by offering them so much money the player would be mad not to leave.
It is pure capitalism with a touch of Dallas type shenanigans thrown in. There are always tales of bungs being handed around and favours being called in to smooth the wheels of football commerce lubricated. Football fans will be glued to radios, internet and TV hoping that there club bags the star player that will either keep them from getting relegated or help them winning promotion. Those clubs that do not buy players or even worst they sell players will leave their fans in a couple of days of depression or mourning knowing that the fag end of the season will be marred with drudgery and struggle.
The wittier section of the supporters will be writing new ditty’s to sing at the games in the hope of putting of a high flying transferred player who has just been brought. Since supporting a football team is defined by who you hate.
