Alas the clown show is coming to an end. The 2012 nomination process to find a candidate to run against Barack Obama is slowly coming to an end with Mitt Romney being that person. Now those who read this blog on a regular basis will know that betting on political matters is a great hobby and that the political line tends to be liberal socially and conservative economically. Rick Santorum our choice to be the Republican nominee was a blindingly great choice.
Backing a guy at 339/1 did not break the bank so we decided to have a go. We tweeted him to let him know what to do and surprisingly a lot of his actions followed those tips and suggestions. Whether he took them on board we will never know, but, what we do know was that Rick Santorum could have been the GOP choice if he never made such stupid remarks on John F Kennedy and womens health.
Slagging off Democrats is good, slagging off a slain President because he supported the separation of church and state was just plain dumb. Getting involved in discussing womens reproduction issues and other health stuff was always going to lead to problems and he should have had a better narrative than to say he was against the pill. The pill is not the biggest problem in the world right now and shoving a catholic point of view in a pragmatic world is not always sensible.
In the end we had a great run and it was fun. However, I do not think that this race is over. Mitt Romney is not going to beat Obama. He is just too plastic, bland and selfish. There is no way you would want to talk to the guy because he would bore you to death. He may have a load of money but that is it! Those who think money is the state of play when judging a person’s personality will be bowled over by Romney. Those who see other things such as policies and character will see Romney as totally plastic and full of entitlement.
Hence as the rubble of Santorum campaign settles, I have just backed Sarah Palin at 699/1+. Sarah Palin hates Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney is hated by the conservatives, Newt Gingrich hates Mitt Romney and there is still a chance of a brokered convention. Sarah Palin the nominee for the Grand ‘Ol Party….you never know!
